Junbo Zhou

A baritone from Jinan China. He is currently pursuing his Doctoral of Musical Arts degree at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). He is appointed by CCM to teach Applied Voice in the Musical Theater Department and Acting Department at CCM.  Mr. Zhou has performed with Cincinnati Opera , Opera San Jose, Sarasota Opera,  Queen City Opera, Nickel City Opera, Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, CCM Philharmonic, Lebanon Symphony Orchestra.  

Mr. Zhou has performed , covered or studied  the roles of John Brooke in Little Women, Schlémil in Les contes d’Hoffman, Badger in Little Cunning Vixen, Basilio and Fiorello in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Escamilo in Carmen, Yakusidé in Madama Butterfly, Beast in Beauty and the Beast, Javert in Les Misérables, Phantom in Phantom of the Opera, Emile de Becque in South Pacific, Don Quixote from Man of La Mancha, Prof. Harold Hill from The Music Man, Dr. John Dolittle from Dr. Dolittle  . He was also featured as a soloist in countless operatic concerts, musical theater concerts, and oratorios.

 

Mr. Zhou has sung different genres and styles of music and is experienced in teaching opera, musical theater and other contemporary commercial music. He graduated and received his certificate in teaching Contemporary Commercial Music from Shenandoah University this summer. 

Mr. Zhou’s awards and grants include grants from Atlanta Opera Guild, 3rd prize at China National Opera Competition hosted by China Conservatory of Music, encouragement award at China National Italian Art Song Competition hosted by Central Conservatory of Music., 1st place at Georgia NATS competition, and the CCM Incentive Awards. Mr. Zhou was one of the 28 semifinalists of Fort Worth Opera McCammon Competition in 2020 ( Canceled due to Covid). Among the 28 semifinalists, there are Jessica Faselt ( soprano at Metropolitan Opera, Metropolitan Opera National Counsel Audition National Winner), Elena Villalón ( soprano at Houston Grand Opera, Metropolitan Opera National Counsel Audition National Winner), Teresa Castillo ( George London Foundation Competition Encouragement Award), Megan Moore ( Artist Diploma of Opera from The  Juilliard School).

 

Mr. Zhou was a young artist at Sherrill Milnes Studio, VOICExperience Orlando Disney, Harrower Summer Program and an apprentice artist at Sarasota Opera.

 

Mr. Zhou received a Masters degree in Voice from University of Cincinnati College –Conservatory of Music (CCM) in 2016, received a Bachelor degree in Voice from Renmin University of China in 2014. Mr. Zhou has years of teaching experience and is able to teach voice lessons in either English or Chinese.
